Biography
Mackenzie Howe (She/They)
Mackenzie Howe (b. 2004) is a visual artist and writer from Minnesota, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting with a minor in Creative Writing at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Mackenzie enjoys and works intensely with traditional fine arts techniques such as charcoal drawing, oil on canvas, and relief printing. Her recent work has evolved these medias by incorporating mylar, monotype, and fabric installation. Mackenzie’s work explores genres of still life and portraiture, blending abstract, realistic, and representational references to examine themes of collective memory, home, identity, and time. Inspired by the natural world, she incorporates symbolic animals and plants throughout her work. Through symbolic imagery and narratives around these themes, she creates compositions that evoke a sense of discomfort and playfulness. In addition to her fine arts practice, Mackenzie is a passionate creative writer, working across poetry, short stories, fiction, and other forms of writing to explore further the subjects that inspire her visual practice.
